After "Butterflies" and "Lizards",
"Crabs" completes a surreal triptych where a constellation of
multicolored animals invade the space left around a face that emerges from
nowhere.
As in his two previous compositions, the artist takes the
observer from the opposite side by painting the expression of a face which does
not correspond to that expected in the established context: here, one would
think of finding a pout of disgust aroused by the swarming crabs that encroach
widely on the face in places ... but not at all! The face tenderly embraces a
small crab and cares nothing else.
There is a fairyland of colors on the shells of these crabs,
living jewels twirling on a golden background.
