On the painting,
a resident of a Pacific atoll talks to an Eskimo woman. These residents of the
antipodes see their fate linked to the future of the oceans, a link in this
painting. We know these peoples are greatly threatened at the beginning of this
new century of the Anthropocene. The inexorable melting of glaciers and rising
waters all over the globe are leading to the gradual dissolution of these
sanctuaries of life. As the polar bears are doomed to drown and the volcanic
islands are about to disappear from the map, who cares about our fellow human
beings soon to be deprived of their habitats and all that gives meaning to
their lives ...?
